Find reliable health information for all the family this Christmas

The Information Standard offers advice on finding reliable information for family ailments and illnesses

Christmas should be a time for festive cheer but as many families will admit, when you’re all under one roof it can be stressful. As well as trying to make sure everyone has a nice time, what if you’re also faced with family ailments and illnesses you know nothing about?

Auntie’s pet allergies, grandad’s food intolerances, nan’s diabetes, uncle’s migraines – it’s unsurprising that 44% of people say they are more concerned about their family’s health during the festive season. A further 64% claim they are more likely turn to the internet for health information during the winter.

The Information Standard, the quality mark scheme for health and social care information, is advising families on how to search for reliable and trustworthy health advice this Christmas. Director of public awareness, Ann Robinson said: “Not all websites can be trusted, so if people are searching for guidance about a loved one’s illness or ailment it’s important they find reliable information. Whether you’re searching for information about flu, allergies, diabetes, snoring or migraines, the only way to check if a website is trustworthy is to look for The Information Standard quality mark. You can also visit our website for a list of certified members.”

The Information Standard has over 130 certified health and social care member organisations providing evidence based information on a wide range of conditions.
